Carefully bred spotted horses called Appaloosas were named after the Palouse River that runs through the traditional land of the Nez Perce.

The Surf Scoter is frequently seen “scooting” through the surf, and diving beneath breaking waves. It has a large oddly shaped bill. It’s appearance and habitat preference makes it one of my favorites to see along the coast.

The most ancient of all the sharks, the Frilled Sharks closest relatives died out 12 - 30 million years ago.
